McBride Community
McBride is nestled between the Canadian Rockies and the Cariboo Mountains in the beautiful Mount Robson Valley. The Grand Truck Pacific Railway brought McBride into being as a divisional point on the new Northern transcontinental line in 1911-1914. The company designed the town site with the station as the focus of Main Street. The major industries include forestry, agriculture, government service, construction and trade.
Towering mountains outline the horizon with snow-capped peaks throughout the fall, winter and early spring. The area's varied terrain ensures incredible hiking, camping, and birdwatching during warmer months, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling in winter. Other activities in McBride include golfing, curling, skating, roller skating, downhill skiing, whitewater activities, canoeing, rafting, kayaking and mountain climbing. Plan for a day-long hike, or multi-day trip to places like the Ancient Forest, Eagle Valley, Kristi Glacier, Bell Mountain, Mount McBride, Ozalenka, and more.
There is one elementary school and one senior secondary school in McBride. The community is only a 45-minute drive from Mount Robson, 1.5 hours from Jasper and the Alberta border, and just two hours from Prince George. McBride itself is small enough that everything is within easy walking distance.
