Houston Community
Houston, originally known as Pleasant Valley, was established in the early 1900s as a railroad tie-cutting centre for the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway.  The Bulkley and Morice rivers meet at Houston, with legendary steelhead, spring and coho salmon runs that provide much of the recreation. The world’s largest fly rod can be seen at Steelhead Park. The main industries are forestry, tourism and supply and service center. Houston offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle.

Houston offers two golf courses, a pool, a curling and skating rink, cross-country ski trails, a bowling alley, tennis courts, a gun range, rodeo grounds, ball diamonds, rugby/soccer and track, camping, hiking, horseback riding, forest tours, hunting and fishing.

The population is approximately 3,707. Houston has two elementary schools and one secondary school. The fishing is beyond excellent in the extensive system of lakes and rivers that surround Houston, a town that can rightfully claim itself to be the Steelhead Capital of Canada.
