Kitimat Hospital and Health Centre
The Kitimat General Hospital and Health Centre is a 31 acute care bed unit with medical/paediatric and surgical/obstetrical wards. Facilities include an outpatient-emergency department, case room, operating room units, physiotherapy, radiology and laboratory departments, as well as a 20 bed facility with 36 residential care beds attached as Mountainview Lodge. Community services include home support and home nursing care and long-term care case management.

Seven general practitioners practice in Kitimat, one of whom provides anesthesia. Other resident physicians in Kitimat include a full-time anesthetist and a general surgeon. Kitimat General Hospital is also the regional orthopaedic centre and an orthopaedic surgeon provides services to the area from Kitimat. Twice-weekly visiting services are provided by an internist as well as once-weekly service by a urologist and ENT surgeon. Specialists in dermatology, neurology, ophthalmology, and radiology visit on a monthly basis.

Kitimat Community
Set in a beautiful and natural ocean, mountain and valley paradise, Kitimat is located on the Douglas Channel just a few miles off British Columbia’s inside passage. Kitimat was built in the 1950s and is one of BC’s youngest coastal communities. The major employers are an aluminum smelter, pulp and paper mill and petrochemical manufacturer. Kitimat offers affordable housing and natural splendor that support a balanced lifestyle.

Kitimat offers racquetball courts, soccer and baseball fields, skating rinks, an aquatic center, a golf course, established hiking trails, heli-hiking tours, fresh and saltwater fishing, swimming, camping, scuba diving, water skiing, wildlife viewing and marine charters. The population is approximately 11,538 and there are three elementary schools, and two secondary schools.
