District of Kitimat - Health Care Recruitment and Retention Incentive

The District of Kitimat is committed to supporting the recruitment and retention of health care professionals in Kitimat and the Haisla Nation by offering various financial and non-financial incentives. Provincial Rural Retention Incentive (PRRI)

Incentive

  • Up to $2,000 quarterly to a max of $8,000 for the year

Eligibility

  • Regular full-time and regular part time employees covered by the Nurses Bargaining Association (NBA), Health Sciences Professional Bargaining Association (HSPBA), Facilities Bargaining Association (FBA), and Community Bargaining Association (CBA) are eligible
  • Up to $2,000 quarterly to a max of $8,000 for the year, pro-rated for productive hours based on a max of 412.5 productive hours in each quarter
  • Eligible employees who do not qualify for the full $2,000 quarterly incentive payment each quarter, but who work a total of 1650 productive hours in an eligible position from April 1, 2024, to December 31, 2025, will nonetheless receive the maximum incentive of $8,000
  • GoHealth BC nurses and GoHealth BC Health Sciences Professionals (HSPs) are not excluded from the PRRI
  • Any employee who has received the Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive is not eligible for the PRRI while completing their 2 year return of service
  • All Northern Health communities excluding Prince George
  • Excluded staff (grade 10 and below) that work in an eligible community are also eligible for the PRRI

Rural and Remote Recruitment Incentive (RRRI)

Incentive

  • $30,000 incentive for a 2 year return of service

Eligibility

  • New to a rural and remote community who previously worked in urban/metro centre AND have relocated to a Northern Health rural/remote community, or
  • Are new to BC’s public health sector
  • Incentive is prorated based on 1.0 FTE. The incentive will be back dated to April 1, 2025.
  • This incentive is available for positions listed below in communities with a vacancy rate higher than 10%
  • Employee must sign contract and begin work by December 31, 2025
