Life at Northern Health

Lauren, Nurse Practitioner in Prince George

From our Staff

Shawna is a Nurse Practitioner in Burns Lake BC.

What I like most about where I work is the freedom and autonomy to care for my patients within the scope of a family Nurse Practitioner. I work in five separate clinics and get to see an amazing variety of people and lifestyles.

Where I live is definitely the best perk of my job. Burns Lake is a hidden gem, with amazing recreational activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, cross country skiing, kayaking, sledding and much more. The variety in both my job and home l life has made northern living the only place for me.

Melinda is the Physiotherapist in Fort St. John BC.

Northern Health provides many opportunities to grow and develop their employees. I originally started with a temporary position to cover a maternity leave. After fulfilling that role I immediately transitioned into a Chief Physiotherapist role, managing an entire rehabilitation department.

Coming from a big city I’ve always known the fast pace lifestyle. It’s nice to be able slow down to enjoy the sunsets and sunrises, especially when I’m not stuck in bumper to bumper traffic.

Josh is a Licensed Practical Nurse in Prince George BC.

Living in the North offers a sense of community and access to the outdoors that few places can match. The cost of living is also amazing. Having worked in a few other facilities in other areas of BC, I've come to realize the team based atmosphere and nurse/doctor relationships at UHNBC are special. The building also has some pretty nice design features.

As an avid mountain biker we are spoiled with ease of access. There are 4 different riding areas with some amazing trails less than 10 minutes from my front door. In the winter I'm able to strap on my snowshoes and be at the beautiful Nechako River in five minutes.
